Team names, not HOME and AWAY
Most club scoreboards say HOME and AWAY. This one says who is actually playing.
The board carries 18 super bright 12-inch alphanumeric panels, which spell out interchangeable team names either side of the score. For a club running several sides across a Saturday — firsts, seconds, colts, ladies, and whoever has travelled to play them — that turns one board into a different board for every fixture.
It reads as though the ground was set up for that match rather than for rugby in general, which is the sort of detail visiting clubs and travelling supporters notice.
Readable from anywhere on the ground
The scores and clock run on 8 super bright 12-inch LED seven-segment digits.
The board has a viewing distance of up to 183 metres. A full rugby pitch with in-goal areas runs to around 144 metres, so the board is legible from anywhere on the ground including the far dead-ball line — there is no corner of the pitch or the touchline where it stops being readable.
Control distance is up to 120 metres, which means the operator does not have to stand beside it. The board can be run from the clubhouse, the stand or the touchline, wherever the person keeping score actually needs to be.
Designed and built to order
The board was designed, manufactured, delivered and installed by us, in club colours for the Red & Blacks.
Our other rugby case study, at Drybrook RFC, covers a memorial board given by a family. Between them they show the two routes most clubs take: a board specified for what the ground needs, and a board given for what it means. We build to order either way.
